Re:
How to get twice as much done in half
as much time, while you build a business
that supports your ideal lifestyle
You
know the drill.
It's
5:30 am Monday morning. The alarm clock
goes off and you climb out of bed into
the darkness and get ready to meet the
day's challenges. You grab a quick bite
to eat, say hi to the kids, pet the
dog, grab your cell phone and paperwork
- and you're out the door.
It's
another beautiful day, full of outstanding
opportunities in your exciting life
as a business owner. Whoohooo!
Life
is terrific! Your plans for the week
are all laid out and focused on your
top goals. You feel great as you drive
to your office, eagerly anticipating
some serious progress in the coming
week.
Then,
it starts...
Your
cell phone rings, interrupting the audio
book you're listening to. It's not even
7:30 in the morning and already the
phone call you just received turned
what was going to be an 11-hour work
day into the schedule from hell - or
so it seems. There go all your best
laid plans!
Are
you getting all you want from your business?
More
than likely you're doing well enough
(and probably better than most owners
in your industry) -- but you know your
business has a lot more potential than
what you've already tapped.
It's
frustrating to see all the potential
that you and your business have for
exponential growth and yet not be able
to make it happen as quickly as you
like. I know because I've been there
myself starting, many times, growing
and eventually selling three other successful
businesses.
Here's
a way to see if we're on the same page.
This quick analysis will help you identify
where you'd like to get more out of
your business. Take
a moment to look back at last year and
check off your answers to these 10 questions.
If
you answered no to three or more of
the above questions, then read on because
there's a very good possibility that
the private one-on-one strategic sessions
that go along with RPM Success® Business
Coaching will give you a significant
boost in your business growth, performance,
and profitability.
I'm
sure that you'd agree there are business
systems, sales and marketing approaches,
employee hiring and motivation decisions
and customer service procedures that
could have been better optimized. You
could have added thousands of dollars
in profits to your bottom line, you
could've freed up more hours each week
giving you the flexibility and lifestyle
you want, you could've immeasurably
increased the level of personal fulfillment
you feel every day of your life.
So...
Why Didn't You Do Better in Those Areas?
I
know it's not for lack of trying. More
than likely it's simply because "life
happens."
With
less and less free time, and more and
more distractions screaming for your
attention, it's a wonder you even get
through the week putting out all the
fires. Never mind making serious progress
on your long-range goals of creating
the business and lifestyle you really
want.
My
bet is it's the day-to-day urgencies
of running a business that take center
stage and slow your progress. Most
small business owners who've made costly
mistakes state that they "should've
known better." And in fact, most
do.
In
today's fast-paced marketplace it's
not necessarily true that you didn't
know the best way to get maximized results.
Sometimes it's simply a matter of staying
focused on a specific plan of action
and following through.
Achieving
your biggest business goals takes more
than just working hard, or even working
smart.
During
the time I've spent mentoring and coaching
small business owners over the last
five years, I've found the most common
stumbling block is not "too much
going on." (That's the number two
trip up -- your business controlling
you instead of the other way around.)
And
it's not hiring the wrong people or
motivating the right people the wrong
way. (That's the number three growth
blocker.)
The
number one cause for making costly mistakes
that delay your goals --
you're too close to your business
to quickly see solutions already right
in front of your nose.
Don't
Be Too Hard On Yourself Though
I've made those very same mistakes myself
in the process of building three successful
businesses before I was thirty years
old. I've lost hundreds of thousands
of dollars very early in life from stupid
mistakes. I've lost countless clients
learning (the hard way) the best approach
to building sales relationships with
different types of people. Trial and
error was the standard operating procedure
for me, as it is for most small businesses.
Frankly
I'd like to beat myself silly with a
sock full of silver dollars.
If I'd listened
more to my mentors along the way, I
would've ended up moving from New Jersey
to the island paradise of Hawaii years
before I did - and I could've done it
with a lot more money in the bank too!
For
example, one year, while growing a service
company, I wasted an entire 12-months
draining a significant amount of our
valuable resources away from high cash
flow profit centers to expand into a
market I never should have invested
one dime in.
If
I would have had my own coach during
that time, I would not have had to face
the16-months it took to recover an optimized
cash flow. That's a total of 28
months in delays! Ouch!
And
in preparing for the sale of two of
my previous businesses my CPA and I
made a somewhat disparaging discovery.
(Actually I would have kicked my own
butt around the office if I could have.)
We discovered
that I could have put at least another
$1.2 million more in my pocket
if I just handled the "people-side"
of the businesses differently during
the last five years of my ownership.
I,
like most owners out there, was way
too close to my business to clearly
see the solutions to challenges and
opportunities for growth right in front
of my nose. I was so focused on the
day-to-day operations of the business
and addressing the urgencies of each
day that I didn't always reserve the
time required to work on my business.
I should have realized earlier on that
"people management" is not
my gift in business.
Even
with my own advisory board of five professionals
and several personal business mentors
I wandered off track and made a huge
mistakes. I
was accountable to no one.
I
would ask you, "Who are you really
accountable to?" Sadly,
for most business owners - the answer
is "Nobody." And unfortunately,
no matter how well intentioned your
plans are -- when left to your own devices,
the "busyness" of business
ownership takes control and your goals
and dreams slip further into the distance.
Think
My Experience Was Unique?
Don't Bet On It...
In
my opinion, government agencies do very
little to provide practical help to
most business owners. (And considering
how inefficiently most of the government
agencies run, that's probably a good
thing.) But one thing the U.S. Small
Business Administration does do is provide
good research.
Their
research indicates two out of three
U.S. businesses fail in their first
year, and four out of five within five
years. Most of those failures are rooted
in poor planning, insufficient market
research and too many mistakes, all
happening too fast with too little objective
strategy development from a coach, mentor,
or other adviser.
As
an established business owner those
statistics may not be as important to
you, and you can be proud that you've
beaten them. But dig into their statistics
further and you'll find an even more
disturbing picture. It's a situation
that's far too common for most businesses
still in operation -- sub-par profitability!
Recent compilations of US national averages
show that service industries eek out
a meager net profit of between 5.3%
and 13.6% (excluding lawyers, physicians
and dentists who have other more pressing
challenges of their own, but do have
1/8th the direct costs of the average
service business.) The statistics for
net profits in retail businesses is
even more dismal - 1.6% to 6.7% net
profits.[1]
Keep
in mind that these are statistical averages.
If you look at the actual research that
the numbers are based on, you'll find
the 80/20 rule at work. The top 20%
of small businesses in any given industry
are doing so much better than the other
companies in that industry that their
high profits raise the entire average.
In plain language that means roughly
80% of small businesses out there are
just surviving,
and far below the optimal profitability
they could be enjoying.
I
don't know about you, but with those
type of net profits, I'd close up shop,
give up all the headaches and work for
someone else. With all the challenges
associated with running a service business,
I promised myself I'd never allow our
net profits to drop below 18% (more
than double the industry average) -
and we did it year after year.
You Can Create the Wealth, Ideal Business
and Dream Lifestyle You Want at the
Same Time
You
can avoid the delays, frustration
and painful trial-and-error that
have you feeling like you're stumbling
through a field of diamonds on a dark
night with nothing but a match for
light. I speak from a place of confidence
in this area, because we've done it
ourselves.
Now,
Deborah and I not only live and work
in Hawaii, but we live in an incredible
town where film crews and stars from
around the world come to shoot TV
shows like the hit series Lost,
and movies like Jurassic Park,
Mighty Joe Young, Windtalkers,
Tears of the Sun, Fifty First
Dates, and dozens more.

Both
our home and our offices are
just yards off the beach overlooking
the cobalt-blue Pacific ocean
where we watch the surfers and
whales play. From this idyllic
location we work with business
owners around the world in over
a dozen different countries.
That's 21st century technology
in action!
(And
the great thing about it is,
you can leverage technology
and the internet to help create
your ideal lifestyle too —
no matter where you live or
what type of business you own!)
|
With
the right systems and structure we
have been able to achieve a level
of financial freedom that most owners
only dream about. Our businesses have
spun off surplus cash flow that has
allowed us to accumulate nearly two
million dollars of real estate investment
properties outside our own home! And
those investment properties passively
pay all our living expenses each and
every month!
My point in sharing this is not to
impress you. But rather to
impress upon you
that you can do it too! I don't
have a ton of institutional education
(heck - I didn't even finish college).
And the type of businesses we've owned
have not been in glamorous industries
located in the heart of downtown Manhattan
either. You, your expertise in your
own business, and your passionate
dedication to growth is all you need
to get going.
There
are hundreds of other owners around
the world who have gained financial
independence and multi-million dollar
status through the
growth of their own small businesses
too. I know it's very possible for
you to restructure your business,
skyrocket your profitability, and
create a better lifestyle for you
and your family. And now, with the
powerful synergy of online and offline
strategies that's available to you
in the Owners Club — you can
turn a "good possibility"
into a practical probability!
There
IS a way to reach your goals in 1/3rd
the time
it would take on your own!
|
As
an "Optimizer" the question
isn't whether you can do it on
your own. You've already established
your business and you're considered
successful by your peers and family.
Through
tough decisions and persistent
action, you've already set yourself
apart from the masses as a success-focused
business owner. You're a super-achiever.
How
can I honestly say that without
ever having met you?
Because,
simply by choosing to read this
right now you're demonstrating
your commitment to constantly
improve on and expand the quality
of your life. You've distinguished
yourself from the crowd. You know
that in order to reach the goals
you've set for yourself, you need
to think laterally, not
like in a literal static way like
the rest of the herd.
That's
what super-achievers do. They
always look to improve their
skills, their businesses and
their lives in order to make
them better and better.

As
an "Optimizer" the question
isn't whether you can do it on your
own. You've already established your
business and you're considered successful
by your peers and family. The question
is -- how much time do you
want to take to reach that next level
of your business and lifestyle goals?
Because
of your desire for optimization and
wealth creation, the improvements you
want to make and the goals you want
to achieve require a higher level of
support and accountability than the
average owner needs or wants. And RPM
Success® Business Coaching is the
one resource that gaurantees you'll
achieve your BIG goals in one-third
the time it would take to do on your
own.
Only
the best and brightest recognize the
power of having their own business coach
in their corner. Others let pride, ego
or well-meaning (but fearful) friends
tell them otherwise. Super-successful
business owners know the value of gaining
one powerfully original idea. They
know how just
one 45-minute session with your own
business coach can shave off months
or years of needless trail and error
from your success time-table.
What
do Oprah, Andre Agassi and
Ho'ala Greevy all have in common?
They've
all worked with their own business
coach!
Now
you probably know who Oprah
is. Also well known is Andre
Agassi, the second American
to win all four Grand Slam titles
in his career. (Although he's
best known for his savvy media
presence and his powerhouse
personal branding.)
But
who is this Ho'ala Greevy?
Well,
he's another client who used
RPM Success® Business Coaching
to achieve his goals in record
time. Ho'ala has created a name
for himself in a little less
glamorous (but extremely profitable)
technology field. After creating
an incredibly robust self-learning
anti-Spam program called Pau
Spam (http://pauspam.net) and
working with his coach for a
little over 6-months - he's
on a serious roll.
With
the strategies and action plans
he developed with his coach
Ho'ala has taken the State of
Hawaii by storm to become the
dominant force in Spam eradication
software -- with clients ranging
from the state's largest law
firm -- to the state government
itself!
Now he's getting ready to move
up to the next level with his
coach and take Pau Spam nationwide!
All this in under one year.

Why
take a longer, harder path to your goals
-- when there's a proven way to do it
faster and with far fewer mistakes?
We
all have different strengths. It's crucial
to identify those strengths as quickly
as possible so that weaknesses can be
compensated for before we do too much
damage to our own businesses.
As
helpful as my own personal mentors have
been, (and believe me, they saved me
from many costly mistakes) they didn't
follow any set program or have a systemized
approach. Things usually would have
to reach a critical point before I'd
recognize the need to dedicate some
serious time to the long range goals
of my businesses. When
alerted to the danger that lay ahead,
I'd take a week or two off to concentrate
my time to working on my businesses,
instead of in them. But that's
no way to make business growth smooth
and enjoyable!
If
I only had the
advantage of a set scheduled support
and strategic coaching
I wouldn't have had to take weeks at
a time all at once. I could have achieved
more in my businesses, all with less
stress and disruption to my life.
This
is one of the big differences between
having a mentor, and having your own
business coach. I discovered this for
myself when I partnered with my first
business coach. He helped me with that
structure in three specific areas that
my mentors had not.
